Denture Repair in Matthews, NC

Since dentures are used when a person is missing all or most of their natural teeth, there is no time to waste when they need repairs. Whether through normal use or by accident it’s possible to crack, chip, or otherwise damage your dentures. Over time the fit of your dentures can change as well causing sores.

Can I repair dentures at home?

With at-home dental repair kits sold in many drug stores and tips online for quick-fix solutions with superglue, you may feel tempted to try fixing your dentures yourself. It’s important to keep in mind that repairing dentures using glue or epoxies adds material to them that can change the denture’s fit. Even using dental-grade adhesives can change the fit and cause other issues long-term. The best choice when you need urgent or emergency denture repair is to seek out a professional repair.

  • How long do dentures last?

Dentures typically last between five and ten years. Partial dentures tend to last longer than full dentures. Warping of the denture itself or a change in the shape of a patient’s mouth often limits a denture’s lifespan. Besides fit, it also isn’t uncommon to begin to see chips or loose teeth in the dentures as they age. Some signs of needing repairs or even replacement dentures are:

    • Your dentures are causing discomfort or even harming your gums in the form of sores
    • They may feel looser than you remember and may even fall out occasionally
    • Trouble speaking clearly
  • How do I know if my dentures are fixable?

Sometimes dentures aren’t repairable. This might be because of severe breakage where even dentist-grade epoxy cannot provide a reliable repair.

Another scenario where repair might not be possible is a dramatic change in the shape of the gums. Less significant changes in fit can usually be fixed by relining the denture.

If you’re unsure whether your dentures are fixable we are happy to consult with you if you contact our office.
